Málaga, Tarifa, Cadiz, Gibraltar, Marbella, Ronda

  • SafetyDid Málaga, Tarifa, Cadiz, Gibraltar, Marbella, Ronda feel as safe as the guidebooks say? Where, and at what time?Felt safe
  • CrowdsWhich places in Málaga, Tarifa, Cadiz, Gibraltar, Marbella, Ronda were more crowded or more touristy than expected?

Not overcrowded in the spring season. Summer is a different story.

  • CostWere prices in Málaga, Tarifa, Cadiz, Gibraltar, Marbella, Ronda fair, or did anything cost more than it should?Good value

Prices were generally fair given the high tourism numbers these places attract. Marbella is a pricey destination.

  • Weather

Inland locations very hot in summer, weather was perfect in the shoulder season. There were enough good wind days for kitesurfing.

  • Something elseWhat is the one thing you would tell a friend before they visit Málaga, Tarifa, Cadiz, Gibraltar, Marbella, Ronda?

Tarifa is an excellent, vibrant destination ideal for wind and water adventure, the other locations are great for food and immersion into the local culture.

  • Getting aroundNeed a car

Pick up a rental car in Malaga and drive to Tarifa. Keep Tarifa as the base for day trips to other locations, all accessible with a car in ca. 2 hours

  • CleanlinessHow clean were the streets and public spaces in Málaga, Tarifa, Cadiz, Gibraltar, Marbella, Ronda?Spotless

Found the places quite clean in the shoulder seasons when I visited. Avoided going in peak summer when there are a lot more crowds, but cleanliness is unlikely to be a problem

  • Something else

Wind and kitesurfing lessons are highly recommended in Tarifa, but these are dependent on wind and wave conditions. Be prepared for 4+ days for kitesurfing lessons on the beach in Tarifa - sessions could move if conditions are less than idea on particular days/ times, especially for your level. If sessions are cancelled, recommend driving to other locations on day trips
